    Construction

From Wikitia - Reading time: 1 min

Construction is a broad word that refers to the art and science of forming things, systems, or organisations. It derives from the Latin constructio (from com- "together" and struere "to pile up") and the Old French construction. The verb to construct refers to the act of constructing, while the noun construction refers to the manner in which something is constructed and the type of its structure.

Construction, in its most commonly used context, refers to the processes involved in the delivery of buildings, infrastructure, and industrial facilities, as well as the related activities, from the beginning to the conclusion of their useful lives. Construction usually begins with planning, funding, and design and continues until the asset is completed and ready for use; it also includes repairs and maintenance, any work to expand, extend, or enhance the asset, and the asset's ultimate destruction, dismantling, or decommissioning.

Construction as an industry contributes more than 10% of worldwide GDP (6-9 percent in industrialised nations) and employs about 7% of the global population, or over 273 million people. In 2017, the output of the worldwide construction sector was projected to be worth $10.8 trillion.
