Creatura is a virtual evolution vivarium, simulating natural adaptations of fauna, in artificially selected, designed and grown enclosed ecosystems. The simulation uses nucleotides based genome, unique for every animal and plant node in vivarium, giving ability to sequence, review, compare and edit each organism DNA directly, with tools similar to DNA sequence editors used in bio-genetics research.[1] It was developed by Wojciech 'Koksny' Górny, has been on Steam Early Access since 2018, and got 1.0 version release by March 2021.[2][3]
Creatura has two game modes, "sandbox" freeplay, and objective oriented scenarios. In freeplay mode, user is able to customize starting conditions of the vivarium, with the experience focused on unconstrained designing of vivarium ecosystems.[4] Freeplay vivariums can share plant specimens over global inventory system, and species discoveries made in them are logged in global online Creatura Wiki.[5][6] Contrary to freeplay, scenarios present evolutionary challenges, with quest-like objectives list, limiting animals available at start, and allowing only plants grown in the scenario tank to resolve the given objectives.[7]
