The Crimson Shadows were a Swedish garage rock band formed in 1984.
The band was formed in October 1984 in Stockholm,[1] between Jens' and Peter's mutual interest to form a sixties influenced garage band, with both of them bringing other members. At their first gig, they were called Shake Some Action, after the Shake Some Action|song by the Flamin' Groovies of the same name.[2] Peter gave the band their name, taking it from a poem on the back of the first The Chesterfield Kings album.[1] In March 1985, they recorded five songs at Siljan Studios, which were sent to a few record labels[3] as a demo. Initially, Tracks On Wax (Record label) owner Jörgen Johansson, a label that had released records from their contemporaries, expressed interest in releasing a single, but the plans fell through. The band went back to the studio to record two more songs. Taking "When I'm Going Away" from the first session and "What I Want" from the second, in May 1985 they released their first single independently. This single was pressed in limited quantities, only pressing 350 copies with picture sleeves. In September, the band recorded five more songs, two of which would consist of their second single, released in December under Sunlight Records, a label fabricated by The Stomachmouths. This single was also pressed in limited quantities, with 526 copies and picture sleeves being made. In March 1986, the band played their last concert at Club Kaos in Sweden, and broke up afterwards, due to lack of attention and building conflicts of leadership and musical direction. Afterwards, Peter and Johan formed Wylde Mammoths, Jens and Hendriks formed The Highspeed V, and Mans formed The Livingstones.
In 1987, Mystery Machine released an EP consisting of unreleased tracks, with most tracks being taken from the September 1985 session except the last one, being recorded in Peter Maniette's kitchen.[4] In 1988, the band briefly reformed to record their mini-album, "Hangin' Out", again for Mystery Machine. Various other tracks were released on compilations. From the September 1985 sessions, "Gonna Make You Mine" and "Nightmare" were released, respectively on "Declaration Of Fuzz" and "Dimensions Of Sound". Also, the tracks "Garbage Truck" and "It's Too Late", from a recording made in Peter's room, were released on Raw Cuts Volume Five on Satellite Records. In 1994, Weed Records released a single, consisting of an unreleased track from the March 1985 recording session, "Out Of My Mind", and the b-side of their first single. In 2000, a majority of their recordings were compiled on CD, called "Out Of Our Minds". Since 2008, the band have reformed various times with different members, playing in Germany, Italy, and Spain.
