eSam, is an online auction and online retail marketplace in Iran, similar to eBay.[1][2][3] The website is free to use for buyers, and charges sellers a percentage of the sale price.[4][5]
Sam Modonpour, founder and chairman of eSam. The auction website founded by Iranian Peoples computer engineer Sam Modonpour in 2012.
The initial version of the website was launched in 2011 and provides consumer to consumer services to Iranian users via its platform.[4] In the first 2 hours of eSam's activity, the first purchase, which was a leggings, was registered, so that the order processing and delivery process took 3 days.[6]
Since the beginning of the company, due to the complete lack of confidence of the Iranian people in online shopping and limited access levels, this company has faced a major crisis. Due to the strict rules of Internet activity in Iran, eSam was hardly able to get permission to hold online auctions and so far, it has had little success in gaining the trust of buyers so that it has not been able to attract sponsorship.[7]
They are currently working on a service that allow to order products from eBay and Amazon (company).[8]
