An Educational Consultant (EC) is a kind of adviser that assists students as well as their parents in the process of educational preparation for levels ranging from high school to graduate school.

The services provided by an educational consultant are comparable to those provided by school counsellors and academic advisers; however, educational consultants often work independently or are engaged by a larger educational organisation. According to the National Association of Independent Schools, an educational consultant is a person who is able to: "assess child's talents, learning style, and ideal learning environment," "explain the different types of schools and which students each school serves best," "identify schools that fit student's needs," "gauge whether a particular school is right for child," "explain the application process, calendar, and deadlines," "help prepare for campus visits, admission tests," and "help prepare for campus visits, admission tes

The Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) are the two most important professional organisations for educational consultants (Higher Education Consultants Association). The Society of Education Consultants is the most important professional organisation in the UK (SEC).
