Ellison is a Norwegian indie folk duo, formed in late 2022. The duo consists of Karethe Eriksen (vocals and guitar) and Lisa Glemming (vocals and keys).[1] The duo released their debut single Cars, Thieves and Carousels in June 2023 and their second single Lover in September 2023.
Before they had ever released any music, Ellison got booked for gigs both at home and abroad based on the strength of their demos, playing in the UK, Germany and Norway. The duo behind Ellison had been friends for a long time, but only came together creatively in late 2022 with a text that opened with: “Here’s the pros and cons of being in a band”.[2]
Citing sources of inspiration such as Simon & Garfunkel, Patti Smith and Fleetwood Mac, the duo blends folk with 70s soft rock and pop, always with their vocals and storytelling at the core of every song.[3][4] This is part of what made a music critic state that “what makes Ellison exceptionally promising are the voices and harmonisations, which show a personality and edge one rarely sees.”[5] They've been described as a more unfiltered alternative to Swedish duo First Aid Kit.”[5]
