A person who is concerned with the conservation of the environment and/or advocates for its preservation is known as an environmentalist. An environmentalist is someone who supports the aims of the environmental movement, which is defined as "a political and ethical movement that seeks to improve and protect the quality of the natural environment through changes to environmentally harmful human activities." An environmentalist is also known as an environmentalist. An environmentalist is someone who practises or subscribes to the environmentalist ideology or any of the other similar ideas.

There are several subcommunities that make up the environmental movement. Each of these subcommunities takes a unique approach and focuses on a particular issue; as a result, they have developed their own individual movements and identities. Some critics of environmentalists have been known to refer to them by using informal or disparaging names, such as "greenie" and "tree-hugger." However, some members of the general public tend to disassociate the most extreme environmentalists with these negative labels.
