Fukushima (city)

Fukushima is the capital city of Japan's Fukushima Prefecture and the largest city in the prefecture. It is situated in the northern portion of the Nakadri, which is the centre area of the prefecture's prefectural capital. As of the first day of May in 2021, the city has an estimated population of 283,742 people living in 122,130 homes, with a population density of 370 people per square kilometre (960 people per square mile). The city has a total land area of 767.72 square kilometres (approximately) (296.42 sq mi).

It is estimated that the present-day city of Fukushima comprises about one-fifth of the old Shinobu and Date Districts, as well as a section of the former Adachi District. The city is situated in the southwest region of the Fukushima Basin, with mountains in the immediate vicinity.

As you go out of the city, you will come across several onsen such as those in the resort regions of Iizaka Onsen, Takayu Onsen, and Tsuchiyu Onsen. Aside from being home to the Fukushima Race Course, which is the only Japan Racing Association horse racing track in the Thoku area of Japan, Fukushima is also home to the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.
