Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia is a Trust Foundation (nonprofit) which is incorporated under the Trustee Act (Incorporation) 1952, Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU), Prime Minister's Department (Malaysia).
It had been established on 26th September 2001 as a movement protesting the declaration of war by the United States and its allies against Afghanistan[1] after the events of September 11 Attacks. When Afghanistan was invaded early October of the same year, GPM had mobilized a humanitarian and medical aid mission to help the victims of the war.
Since then, aside from actively providing emergency assistance, GPM has also provided other humanitarian aid not only to Afghanistan but to nearly 20 countries in need worldwide. GPM began mobilizing assistance such as rehabilitation projects to assist in the rehabilitation of war victims, development of education centers and vocational training for refugees and disaster victims in stages, as well as development and capacity development programs in the socio-economic and living aspects.
GPM has been actively involved in promoting the importance of fostering and maintaining universal peace through awareness programs and information for the community as well as raising funds to assist victims of war and natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, famine, and tsunami.
Fight for universal peace through humanitarian aid and consistent advocacy efforts.
Maintain and enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness in humanitarian aid at the national and international levels.
1. Iftar For The Needy (IFTN)
Iftar For the Needy (IFTN) is one of the major relief projects organized by GPM every year and is held during Ramadan.
From Zaid bin Khalid, the Prophets P.B.U.H said: "Whoever provides the food for a fasting person to break his fast with, then for him is the same reward as his (the fasting person's), without anything being diminished from the reward of the fasting person."
Taking lessons from the hadith of his Prophet Muhammad, IFTN focuses on the distribution of aid such as iftar, packs of raw goods that can be used for a month as well as other basic needs such as comfort and shelter, clothing, sanitation and the hygiene kit of women and the needs of infants to refugees as well as those who are less fortunate in the discharge. GPM will send these assistances either directly or indirectly through the implementation partners in each of the countries involved.
2. Qurban For The Needy (QFTN)
Another major project that GPM organizes annually to celebrate the greatness of Eid al-Adha is the Qurban for the Needy (QFTN) Project. The project will be implemented on every 10,11,12 and 13 Dhu al-Hijjah in almost 21 countries including Malaysia.
The QFTN will usually involve the participation in Qurbani from participants or donors who wish to perform the slaughtering abroad where GPM will represent the slaughtering activities in the countries involved. The main aid provided is sacrificial meats as well as the provision of basic life necessities such as basic food aid, medicine, and educational needs.
3. Winter Aid For The Needy (WAFTN)[2]
Winter may be a season of excitement. But not for those who are facing humanitarian crisis such as war and poverty and yet have to face winter with all the shortcomings. Thus, GPM through the Winter Aid for The Needy (WAFTN) project focused on helping those who had difficulties during the winter.
Among the types of help that will be provided through this project are food assistance, winter kits that include personal items such as sweaters, snow hats, gloves, shoes and socks as well as thick blankets and kerosene or fuel that will be used for heating residential or refugee tents.
