Government of Kerala

Kerala Government is the official name for the state government of the Indian state of Kerala, which is often known as the Kerala Government informally and colloquially. The chief minister (now Pinarayi Vijayan, as of 25 May 2016) is in charge of the government and is responsible for selecting all of the other ministers. The chief minister and their most senior ministers are members of the cabinet, which is the highest decision-making body of a country or region.

Ministers of the Kerala Government are accountable to the Kerala Legislative Legislature; they make remarks in the assembly and answer questions from members of the assembly. Ministers of the Kerala Government are appointed by the Governor of Kerala (the MLAs). The Kerala Legislative Assembly is responsible for enacting fundamental laws, and the government is reliant on it. Elections for the Legislative Assembly are held every five years to elect a new assembly, unless there is a successful vote of no confidence in the government or a two-thirds vote in the assembly to call a snap election, in which case an election may be held sooner than five years after the election. A chief minister is appointed by the governor of Kerala, presently Arif Mohammad Khan, after an election in which the leader of the party most likely to command confidence in the legislature is chosen. This is typically accomplished by having a majority of MLAs in the assembly.
