Goya Robles is an American actor best known for playing the role of Yago[1] for three seasons in the Epix series Get Shorty with Ray Romano and Chris O’Dowd.[2][3][4]

In 2023, Robles played the character of Oscar Papa in Law & Order: SVU[5] and Ricardo Morales Navarrete in Griselda starring Sofia Vegara on Netflix.[6]

He has worked on independent films, including a supporting lead role as Teyo in the film 11:55.[7], starring Victor Almanzar, John Leguizamo, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Julia Stiles, and David Zayas. He is also the executive producer of the short film Wonder,[8][9] which won the HBO Shorts Competition at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival[10] and the Hyundai Vision for Better award at Outfest.[11]

In theatre, Robles portrayed Jackie in the Actors Studio production of The Motherf*cker with the Hat in Los Angeles[12] and was in the staged reading of Mark Borkowski’s play Valentino’s Wing as part of the LAByinth Theater Barn Series, which was directed by Ellen Burstyn. His off-Broadway productions include playing Raul in Extremities and Richard in Crystal Clear at the Dance New Amsterdam Theater.

Robles is a poet and is a member of the faculty at the Lee Strasberg Institute where he teaches slam poetry.[13]

Background[edit]

Robles was born in Connecticut into a family of Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian descent. He holds a degree in music from the University of Bridgeport[14] and is a lifetime member of the Actors Studio holding an MFA from the Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University.[15]

He is also the founder of Paint The Mic,[16] an arts collaboration serving communities in need.
