The Gunawardana Tea Factory is located in Akuressa, a town in the Matara District of Sri Lanka. This facility specializes in the production of high-quality teas and has been recognized with several awards for its products. The factory is under the proprietorship of J.J. Gunawardana, who has developed a reputation for his commitment to maintaining the standard of 'Ceylon Tea'.

The factory was established on December 24, 1991, by Jayantha Jayasinghe Gunawardana, starting as a modest operation with a workforce of just 15 people. Overcoming challenges related to infrastructure, including the absence of electricity and water, the team successfully transformed a small rice milling factory into a functional tea factory. As of now, the Gunawardana Tea Factory employs 150 permanent workers and produces approximately 35000kg of locally-grown teas every month. The factory has earned recognition in the industry for the high quality of its tea products. The company places a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability in its production processes

The Gunawardana Tea Factory has a track record of securing top prices at weekly tea auctions, demonstrating the market's high regard for its products. As an illustration of this, the factory set a record price of Rs. 1,900 per kg for its BM grade tea in the Off Grade category at an e-Auction held on 5/6 July. This surpassed the factory's previous record of Rs. 1,850 for the same grade. The successful marketing and auctioning of this line of tea were handled by Mercantile Produce Brokers Ltd., and it was subsequently purchased by Mabroc Teas Ltd
