Hernst Laroche

Hernst Laroche (born February 15, 1989) is a Haitian-Canadian professional basketball player for Etoile Sportive Du Sahel in the Tunisian Division 1 league.^[1] . He played four seasons at New Mexico State University^[2]

High school career[edit]

Hernst Laroche won the MBL City Leagues 3 times, Provincial Championship 2 times, and the Canadian Championship his bantam year. Hernst Laroche was named MVP in his Bantam, Midget, and Juvenile years and named an all-star every year. His last year he won the finals of the MBL in a triple-overtime contest against Dawson Blues.

From 2006 to 2008 Hernst Laroche attended Vanier College in Montreal. In 2006, On his anniversary he recorded a triple double against Montmorency and recorded the last bucket to seal the game. That year they lost in the quarterfinals to Montmorency. That year he won rookie of the year honors.

In 2007, Vanier lost in the quarterfinals to Edouard- Montpetit. He was part of the first team all CEGEP team.

He also represented Brookwood Elite in the summer of 2007 and 2008.^[3]

College commitment[edit]

During his last year of Prep at Vanier College he was receiving scholarship offers to Universities in the States. He did an official visit to an NCAA Division 1 school at Fairleigh Dickinson, Wisconsin Green Bay and New Mexico State. Hernst Laroche ultimately committed to New Mexico State University on August 2008 and signed his letter of intent.^[4]

College career[edit]

As a Rookie (08-09), Laroche averaged 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds per game and 4,34 assists per game. Laroche shot 48.3 percent from the field, 46.2 from the 3-point line and 76.1 percent from the free-throw line. Laroche also recorded 2.48 assist to turnover ratio and was the No. 2 freshman in the country with these stats.

During his Sophomore (09-10) career, He ranked No. 8 in assists in the WAC with 3.68 per game. Laroche averaged 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game and recorded 46 steals. New Mexico State were crowned WAC champions and punched their ticket to the March Madness. They played against #5 Michigan State where they lost by 3 against Draymond Green ^[5]. Laroche also made a game winning shot against Louisiana Tech (Feb. 8) which appeared as the No. 4 on ESPN Sports Center's top plays.

Professional career[edit]

In July 2012 he signed his first professional contract to BC Odessa. He averaged 7.5 pts, 3.5 assists. He ended the season at Monthey In Switzerland where they lost in the first round of the playoff. He averaged 10.7 pts, 5.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds.

His 2nd year happened in the Czech Republic where he played for Jindrichuv Hradec. He finished in the top10 scorer and, finish the season being player of the week twice with an honorable mention. He averaged 15.8 pts, 4.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds.^[6]

His 3rd year he played another year in Czech Republic and signed with Usti Nad Labem. He helped them make it to the playoff as a 6th seed and lost in the first round of the playoff. He averaged 15.9pts,4.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds.^[7]

In his 4th year he played in Sopron where we played the FIBA Europe Cup. They ended up winning the bronze medal in the Hungarian Cup. And finish 4th in the regular season. They lost in the first round in 5.

He averaged 13.5 pts,5 assists and 4.2 rebounds.

His 5th year he signed in France Pro B in Saint Quentin. He averaged 7.1 pts, 4 assists and 3.6 rebounds.

His 6th year he played for Rio Gallegos Hispano Americano in Argentina. He averaged 3.4 pts, 2.9 assists and 1 rebound per game.

His 7th year he played in Tunisia for Etoile Sportive du Sahel where they finished fourth and lost in the semi-finals to the eventual champion.^[8]

National team[edit]

Hernst Laroche represented the Haitian National Team at the Americup Carribean 2021 Pre Qualifier in Suriname where he finished as the top players in the categories assists per game (5.8). He averaged 9.3 pts, 5.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.^[9]

Hernst Laroche represented Team Quebec in the Canadian U17 championship in the summer 2006 at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia ended up being part of the 2nd all Canadian team. Quebec finished 5th in tournament.^[10]
