A Christian-affiliated private institution in Houston, Texas, Houston Christian University (HCU) was once known as Houston Baptist University (HBU). The year 1960 marked the beginning of the university. The Dunham Bible Museum, the Museum of American Architecture and Decorative Arts, and the Museum of Southern History are all located inside its Cultural Arts Center. In September of 2022, the institution made public an announcement that it will be changing its name from Houston Baptist University to its present moniker.

It is close to the Southwest Freeway and can be found in Sharpstown Section 3A, which is a part of the Southwest Management District (which was once known as Greater Sharpstown) in Houston, Texas.

The Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau states that the site on which HBU is situated is located in the Chinatown neighbourhood.

Both the Reuben and Rebecca Bates Philips Residence Colleges for Men and Women are first-year student housing facilities, although only one of them is designated for male students while the other is reserved for female students. The Sadie and Doug Hodo Residence College is the single residential structure that is the biggest overall and accommodates students of both genders in separate sections on opposite sides of the building. Husky Village is comprised of seven apartment buildings with a variety of floor plans. These buildings are typically designated for usage by the university and mostly accommodate faculty members and upper-class students.
