Ibadan

Ibadan is the capital and most populous city of Oyo State in Nigeria, and it is also the country's largest port. It is the third-largest city in Nigeria in terms of population after Lagos and Kano, with a total population of 3,649,000 people as of 2021 and a metropolitan population of more than 6 million people inside its metropolitan region. It is the most populous city in the nation in terms of geographical area. Ibadan was the biggest and most populous city in Nigeria at the time of the country's independence in 1960, and it was the second most populous city in Africa, behind Cairo, at the time of the country's independence.

Nigeria's second largest city, Ibadan is situated in the south-western region, 128 kilometres (80 miles) northeast of Lagos and 530 kilometres (330 miles) southwest of Abuja, the country's federal capital. It serves as a vital link between the country's coastline region and the country's interior, and it is a major transit hub. Since the early days of British colonial authority, Ibadan has served as the administrative centre of the former Western Region, and some of the city's historic defensive walls still remain today. The Yoruba people constitute the majority of the city's population, which is supplemented by a number of other ethnic groups (particularly the Igbo, Hausa, and Efik) from other areas of the nation.
