John Carlo Parungao Alcantara is a Filipino actor and a model. Currently, he is best known for playing Mico Ramos in the series Hello Stranger.
Born and raised in Nueva Ecija, JC made noise in media in 2016 but flourished in his debut at age of 17 through a viral ad in 2017, Jollibee: Apo." Over the years, he played a supporting role in a drama Halik as Bogs and then merged his first main role in Hello Stranger as Mico Ramos (2020). During this time, Alcantara is dubbed as “The New Gen Heartthrob.”
Alcantara was born in San Leonardo, (Province of Nueva Ecija, Central Luzon) Philippines. He was the third child of Evelyn and Dennis Alcantara. His father worked before as a construction worker. His mother in the past has gone abroad to find a job. Now JC and his family run a small business in a public market.
Alcantara went to Tambol Adorable Elementary school. During his high school years, he had to transfer from three different schools. First, it was from Banoyo National high school, then; Taal National high school, lastly; Bongabon National high school, all schools located in Batangas. Then he continues his college life for a half of year at STI, Makati to study tourism.
As he started exploring his acting career, JC had to postpone his studies for he was having difficulties to manage his job and education at the same time. He admitted that he was only good at academics at first but then his motivation will disappear as the semester goes by.
At a young age, he experienced a normal childhood characterized by a responsive, playful, and caring relationship within the families. According to his mom, JC used to sell homemade ice-candy in his village and used to sell bread called napoy together with his brothers. He also used to play in the computer shops to play online games for hours long.
During his teenage years, JC used to hand out flyers and join numerous pageants building up his confidence over the years. Then one day, he's friend recommended him to try modeling and acting. There he realized how much he loves this field. He also admitted when he was a kid; he wanted to become an actor; he mentioned he would act in school and when there's a celebrity around he could not contain himself but show and express how he adores them.[1]
Before entering his acting career, JC made some guest appearance in various television shows, was a commercial model, and have gone to numerous ads started from "Presto" (2015)[2], to "TNT (2017)[3] Ambassador until; he appeared in a famous fast-food restaurant Jollibee which is an absolute sensation in the Philippines. The title of the viral commercial was "Kwentong Jollibee: Apo" (2017 ) [4]which was a story about family and love. This ad has grabbed the attention of many viewers, and it was the reason JC was contacted by numerous networks and later discovered by Direk Rowel Bayani and Direk Loren. He thanked these two directors for supporting him in the acting career field.[5]
From 2018-2019, Alcantara has a supporting role in a TV series Halik as Bog in director Carlo Po Artillaga and Cathy O. Camarillo. This was his first time to work with famous actors with big names like Jericho Rosales, Amy Austria, and Sam Milby. Alcantara gave the show credit for reinforcing his career, and he also revealed that loyalty is something he learned throughout the series in his interview on PEP. [6]A year later, Alcantara reprised a character in the longest-running -drama in the Philippines called Maalaala Mo Kaya|Maalaala mo kaya. The first series title is Choir as Roderick and following by Maalala mo Kaya: Ilog as young Ferdi (2019).[7] Following that, he signed an exclusive contract with Star Magic, a unit of ABS-CBN Television Network.[8]
In 2020, Alcantara first stared his first main role in acting as Mico Ramos in a Boy's love series, "Hello Stranger directed by Petersen Vargas. It's the first boys love series by Blacksheep that tells story of two college boys whose relationship went from being enemies to friends and more. At first, Alcantara was hesitant to take this role because LGBTQ community is not quite accepted in the Philippines. Then one day, his cousin who was a lesbian gave him courage to take the role. He said that he could us this platform to help his family and friends who are still in the closet to represent and tell their story so that one day LGBTQIA+ community will be accepted and love by the Filipino people.[9] The series has received so much love, and the director Peterson has mention that JC Alcantara was the best option for Mico's character for his acting prowess he quoted ," Mico just came to life with JC."[10]
The latter half of the year, JC was signed up in Rise Artist Studio which is the talent management arm of ABS-CBN Films, in collaboration with Star Magic.[11]
Alcantara's life mostly revolves around his family. The majority of his interview responses, JC would mostly mention how he wants to help his family and how he wants to improve his acting. However, during a live episode of "We rise together" JC has been the subject and was asked if he used to date Jane Deleon but he informed that nothing happened between them.[12]
Alcantara owns a home in Nueva Ecija, he mentioned that he was only 17 when he had this home built for his family[13]. JC revealed he loves collecting colognes or anything that smells good. He also loves collecting jackets no matter the weather in the Philippines, rain and shine, JC would still want to wear jackets.[14]
