Angel Butler (born October 21, 2002[1]) is an American record producer, songwriter, and entrepreneur from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Originally carrying the moniker “Akxxng (pronounced "a-king")”[1], the young artist gained major recognition in the local Hip-Hop scene. After the young artist decided he wanted to take his music career more seriously, he disappeared from the local music scene, soon changing his name to Jaded. Throughout the years, Jaded had worked in collaboration with Ether, Underwolf, Jordan Montgomery, G-3, and many local acts.
Angel Butler was born on October 21, 2002 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is the youngest child of seven, being born to Gene and Julieanna Butler. His mother, Julieanna Butler (maiden name Velez), is a Puerto Ricans from The Bronx who was self-employed, starting multiple businesses in her name. His father, Gene Butler, is African American practicing Muslims, Indiana, who works for Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. While living with his father, Angel was exposed to many different hip-hop artists (notably: Kanye West and Drake (musician), influencing the music created by the artist.
Angel was raised on the eastside of Pittsburgh. Living in East Liberty (Pittsburgh) with the city's middle-lower class most of his adolescence, Angel describes his childhood in a recent interview (with ArtisticEye) as "unorthodox from the normal American teenager."
Angel attended multiple schools growing up, most notably his high school University Prep at which he is set to graduate class of 2021. Unlike a lot of his peers, Angel stayed out of trouble. Throughout most of his academic career, Angel was a high-performing student, earning high grades and test scores. With Angel's high performance, he had many opportunities academically, but chose to decline all opportunities thrown at him, stating "Just because I'm smart, I automatically get labeled to be a doctor or lawyer. I don't want to do that or go into debt all my life for a job that makes me miserable..."
In the beginnings of Jaded producing music, the young artist was apart of the organization 1Hood Media. Through 1Hood Media, Jaded (previously under the name Akxxng) built a network of artists around the city and gained opportunities to further his early music career. Notable achievements the young artist accomplished through 1Hood Media consist of his music being performed at the The Andy Warhol Museum[2], being on stage at Three Rivers Arts Festival[3], and staring in Jasiri X's music video The Babies[4]. Jaded years later cut off his relations to 1Hood Media for currently unknown reasons.
Jordan Montgomery: Welch's Grape Jordan Montgomery' single Welch's Grape (produced by Jaded, previously under the moniker Akxxng)[5] was originally a throwaway song released on Jordan's birthday. Only a few weeks after the song’s release, Welch's Grape soon became a local hit, gaining recognition for both Jordan and Jaded alike. A few months after the song gained traction, Jordan soon collaborated with Jordan Armstrong to direct a music video for the song (starring Livefromthecity and Saani Mac). Jordan states on an article on The Hype Magazine "...it was going to be a throwaway single but it really began to take off on its own so I decided to create a video for it."[6], once again, furthering traction for both Jordan and Jaded.
After an abrupt fallout with 1Hood and the local success of Welch's Grape, Jaded soon made the decision to take his music career more serious, disappearing from the Pittsburgh music scene. While being gone, Jaded worked on himself as an artist, learning mixing and mastering, music marketing, and his personal brand eventually changing his name to Jaded; "embodying the artist"[7] with his laid back and collected personality. While being out of the local music scene, Jaded met up with an old friend, and soon to be frequent collaborator, Zaire Underwood (soon to be Underwolf). Jaded and Underwolf experimented with music both curating a unique sound different from the usual Pittsburgh sound.
Jaded's first releases consist of covers of other popular songs; including covers of "Jaded (Drake song)" (in collaboration with Underwolf) and "Thinkin Bout You (Frank Ocean song).
Jaded is set to release his first project "A Jaded World" in early 2021.
