James Yates (born 1944) is a Tokai,South Africa based contemporary visual artist.
James Yates was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He studied at the St Aidan’s College Grahamstown.
James Yates's work constantly examines Cape Impressionism and Realism, with particular historical interest on Bo-Kaap and District Six[1] within a historical South African Identity truthfulness, and often recreates moments of time gone bye.
His artwork can be found in the permanent collections of Readers Digest Collection, BP and Shell Collections in South Africa as well as in established private collections on at least three continents.
Yates is of modest temperament and shies away from media interest and regularly exhibits at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.[2][3]
