Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia is a major university in New Delhi, India, with a student body of about 30,000 students. This institution, which was originally located in Aligarh, United Provinces (modern-day Uttar Pradesh, India) under Britain's Raj in 1920, was relocated to its current site at Okhla in 1935. The University Grants Commission granted it deemed status in 1962, and it has retained it to this day. It was designated as a core university on December 26, 1988.

Jamia Millia Islamia has chosen Najma Heptulla as the 11th Chancellor, and Najma Akhtar as the 15th Vice Chancellor, both of whom took up their positions in April of this year.

In the Ministry of Education of India's 2020 rankings, Jamia Millia Islamia was rated first among all central universities in the nation, surpassing all other institutions of higher learning.

Under the leadership of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi, the Jamia Millia Islamia was founded in Aligarh on October 29, 1920, by Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, Abdul Majeed Khwaja, and Zakir Hussain and was the first Islamic institution in India. As a result of the desire of certain Aligarh Muslim University students for a new National Muslim University that would be free of government influence, it was founded mostly in reaction to their perception that the management of Aligarh Muslim University had a pro-British position.
