Joaquín Yglesias Luconi (San José, April 14, 1983), is a Costa Rican tenor singer, composer and record producer.
At the age of 9 he was enrolled in the "Quetzal" children's choir, made up of children with a "white voice" and in 1997 he began singing lessons with the Tenor and singing teacher Danilo Chávez Quesada, under his guidance he began to have his first experiences on stage in multiple lyrical settings.
In 2002 he was invited by the Surá Chamber Choir as a tenor soloist and made his international professional debut at the “Ibero-American Spring Festival” in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
In 2003 he was invited by the Voices of the World Symphony Orchestra to participate in an Opera Gala at the National Auditorium of Costa Rica where he performed excerpts from “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi and “The Tales of Hoffmann” by Offenbach, this being his debut. professional in Costa Rica.
On August 30, 2004 he made his professional operatic debut at the National Theater of Costa Rica with the National Lyric Company and the National Symphony Orchestra, obtaining the role of Borsa Matteo in their annual opera “Rigoletto”.
He was a two-time consecutive winner in the Tenor category of the “Young Singers” contest of the National Lyric Company in 2005 and 2006.
He participated in the opera productions of: “La Traviata” (Panama and Costa Rica), “La Boheme”, “Don Giovani”, “Alice in the Country of the Opera” and “Fausto” as well as in "las Zarzuelas" “La Gran Vía”, “Toyupán” and “Luisa Fernanda”.
He also participated as Tenor soloist in projects such as “Carmina Burana”, “Stabat Mater” (Karl Jenkins), “Magnificat” (Vivaldi), “Christmas Cantata” (Saint Saens).
In 2006, soprano Íride Martínez invited him to her foundation, helping him shape his vocal technique and expanding his operatic Light Tenor repertoire.
At the end of 2000 he was invited by the soprano María Marta López to be part of the “Ópera Café” project, a company of lyrical singers who held traveling concerts as a “Flashmob” and in 2012 she invited him to participate as a vocal coach. in the program “Nace una estrella”.
In 2013, Televisora de Costa Rica asked him to record the song “Ave María” by Franz Schubert in an audiovisual for a Christmas campaign produced by Gabriela Alfaro. The song is recorded and broadcast in the month of November, which places him in the national imagination as “The Tenor of Costa Rica.”
During 2012 and 2013 he recorded with the musician Alvaro Esquivel his first album titled “Tierra” with a pioneering sound in the Classical Latin American crossover. In 2014 “Tierra” was reprinted completely translated into Spanish with the bonus track of “Ave María” by Franz Schubert.
In 2015 he released “Pasión”, an album of traditional Costa Rican music and was invited by the “Costa Rica Philharmonic Orchestra” to perform a concert with American artist “Jackie Evancho[1]”, performing duets and solo songs.
At the end of 2015 he carried out an experimental project of three live, popular acoustic songs, performed with instrumentation only of piano and strings.
Also in 2015, together with the Costa Rican singer and producer Arnoldo Castillo, they carried out a new musical project parallel to their career (Los Tenores) and held their launch concert at the “Teatro Popular Melico Salazar[2]”.
In the years after its release, they carried out a large number of projects including their first album “América” produced by Alex Orozco. They also carry out television campaigns as well as concerts with international artists such as Armando Mazanero, Francisco Céspedes, Jairo, La Sonora Santanera, among others.
In 2017, together with Víctor Daniel, composer of the song “La vida es una Carnaval” performed by Celia Cruz, he recorded an album as a B-side style production, which would be called “Más siempre de mi vida”. From this production, three videos are produced[3] in the city of Bergamo, Italy; directed by him and produced by Norberto Zavarce.
For the year 2018, the tenor seeks Alex Orozco, producer of the tenors' album, to record together his third studio album[4] called “Joaquín Yglesias”, a production made up of twelve songs recorded in various countries (Costa Rica, the United States, Spain and England) and was mastered in London by the Metropolis company.
In 2018 he returned to Alex Orozco's studio to produce the double album “Tiempo de Navidad[5] (Christmas Time)”. Album B, (Christmas Time), is recorded entirely in English except for a medley in Italian.
In the second half of 2018, he was awarded the merit of “Country Brand Ambassador, Essential Costa Rica”[6] by the president of the government entity at a concert by the artist.
In February 2020, after a concert in the city of Los Cabos, Mexico with the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra and soprano Patricia Janeckova, he was forced to cancel all his concerts and plans indefinitely due to the increase in infections due to the Covid-19.
As a result of the pandemic, he participates in various musical collaborations, recording the single and virtual video for “Resist” (A Latin American Hug) where some of the Latin American musical exponents participate, including Diego Verdager and Amanda Miguel.
In 2021 is called again to be part of the program "Nace una estrella" as a Judge on a panel made up of his colleagues Debi Nova, Ricardo Padilla and the orchestral director Marvin Araya.
The following year he was invited to compete in the program “Dancing with the stars[7]”, finishing as a finalist alongside dancer Lucía Jiménez.
In 2022 he intends to record an album of his complete authorship as a composer and performer with the collaboration in arrangements, production and musical co-writing of Alex Orozco. 4 video clips are derived from this album: “Envuelveme en tus besos”, “Para Siempre”, “Déjame amarte” and “Nostalgia[8]”.
In 2023 he works on the recording of a new album titled “Italia[9]” where he records ten of the most important songs of Italian and Neapolitan music in their original language. The album is recorded entirely with acoustic instruments with the leading participation on the guitar of Carlos Monge and the cello of Sonia Bruno. Currently the album is musically produced by Alex Orozco.
