Karivelithara Mathew Korah (KM Korah) (25 December 1901 – 1 May 1971) was an Indian politician, freedom fighter and the senior leader of the Indian National Congress. He served as the Food & Agriculture Minister in the Travancore Government under Pattum A Thanu Pillai ministry in 1948. He also served as the Finance & Food Minister in the Travancore-Cochin Government under C Kesavan ministry in 1951. He was also the congress parliamentary party deputy leader in 1954. He also conceptualized Alappuzha-Changanassery Road. He was elected to the Travancore Legislative Assembly in 1948 and to Travancore Cochin Legislative Assembly in 1951 and 1954.

Personal life[edit]

He was born in a Syrian catholic family at Mapuzhakary, Kuttanadu, Alappuzha in Kerala, India on 25 December 1901 to Chandapilla Mathew and Claramma. He studied Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Economics and Bachelor of Laws (BL). He is married to Thresiama who was a MLC. They have six children: two daughters—Claramma, Lizbeth—and four son — Mathew, Thomas , Joseph & Kuruvilla

Political career[edit]

KM Korah started political life from his early days while he was practicing as a lawyer in changanacherry in 1932. He was one of the founder member of Travancore state congress party. He was the foremost leader of the (Responsible government Struggle) struggle against C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer, the Dewan of Travancore State and Abstention movement or Nivarthana Prakshobham . He was sentenced to jail in 1938 and 1939 as part of freedom fight movement. He was also arrested and sentenced to jail for submitting memorandum to Maharaja against C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer. . His election nomination was rejected for criticizing C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer and his wife Thressiama Korah submitted nomination and won the election. She was exceptionally noticed when she came to Travancore assembly with 48 days old child.
