Kerry Lurice Barrett (January 3, 1974) is an American journalist, television anchor[1], and media consultant. Originally from Illinois she attended Clemson University and the University of Florida before starting her career. During her more than 20 years in the industry she worked at television stations from Phoenix to New York City.
Barrett began her career in Wichita Falls at NBC station KFDX. After only seven months at the station she was promoted to full time weeknight anchor making her one of youngest people to hold that title. She then moved to Phoenix where she was an anchor and reporter for ABC affiliate KNXV. She also co-hosted the magazine program “Sonoran Living.”
In 2003 Barrett moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and began anchoring the morning and noon new programs for KSL-TV. During her five years there Barrett reported extensively on Utahns serving in the war in Iraq, at one point traveling to Balad airbase to embed with troops there.
Barrett then moved east first spending seven years as the morning anchor at FOX 29 in Philadelphia before moving to the number one market in the nation in New York City at WNBC. There she worked as the breaking news anchor on the program “Today in New York.”[2]
Since 2019 Barrett has owned and operated Kerry Barrett Consulting. The firm specializes in preparing business owners with camera prep and media pitching for national and local media outlets.
In 2018 Barrett received a breaking news Emmy from the New York chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She also has received awards from The Society of Professional Journalists, The Radio Television Digital News Association, and The Utah Broadcasters Association.
Barrett has been married to her husband John for more than 17 years. They have three children and live in New Jersey. Barrett has been open about their struggles with infertility and the fact that she suffered several miscarriages in between the births of her second and third child.
