Kody Robert Mommaerts (born October 23, 1995) more commonly known as 'Big Mo' is an American entertainer and combat sports ring announcer.
Kody Robert Mommaerts was born in Oceanside, California on October 23, 1995. He grew up in Superior, Colorado, a small town outside of Boulder, Colorado.
From an early age, due to his physical attributes, Mommaerts was very involved in sports and athletics. Mommaerts’ first sport that he seriously trained in was Shotokan|Shotokhan Karate which began his love for martial arts. He trained in the discipline for nearly 7 years alongside many skilled Karateka’s most notably being Kamran Madani.[1]
After being a standout Offensive Lineman in high school, he committed play College football|College Football at the Division I level and attend the University of Northern Colorado.[2][3]
Mommaerts attended the University of Northern Colorado where he played football for 5 years as an offensive lineman, in a backup role.[4]
Mommaerts graduated early with his Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing from the Monfort College of Business. With football eligibility still remaining, he pursued a Master of Business Administration|Master's Degree in Business Administration[5].
Following his graduation, Mommaerts connected with Sparta Sports & Entertainment where he was brought on as a color-commentator shortly after, he took over the Ring Announcer role. Big Mo has since announced for multiple combat sports promotions such as XMMA, Sparta Sports & Entertainment, Airtight Boxing, BYB Extreme and others. After his first year in the industry, Mommaerts was named the ‘2019 Ring Announcer on the Rise’[6] by The Scrap News. He received the award again in 2020[7] beating out other announcers such as Ray Flores, Dean Stone, Pete Treviño Jr, Mike Kendall and others.
Big Mo announces all forms of combat sports, with MMA & Boxing being his main focus. Mo was the first to announce Bare Knuckle MMA, as well as the first Announcer for Lethwei in North America, for the rematch between Dave Leduc and Cyrus Washington.[8]
Big Mo has worked alongside the likes of Frank Mir, Robin Black, Erik Apple, Drew Dober and others.
Big Mo’s entertainment career has evolved to include commercial work, interviewing, as well as film and voice acting.[9]
