Madwa is a small village of 8678 hectares in Pokaran Tehsil in Jaisalmer district, nicknamed ""The Golden city"" in the State of Rajasthan, India.[2] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Madwa depends on POKARAN, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[3] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, One tank, Two tubewells, and One handpump. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - Two rivers, Two canals and Two springs. Madwa is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Handpump. Madwa's pin code is 345021[4], and village code is 02055200. The area of Madwa is segregated as 2625.04 hectares unirrigated, the 5498.59 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 554.37 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Madwa has One post office (Barath Ka Gaon B.O) and One public telephone. The village is connected with a single bus service. Madwa has Two banks, One credit society and One agricultural credit society for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics[edit]

Madwa is a census village in the district of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The village has a total population of 3423 and has total administration over 551 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Madwa has 744 children, 365 boys and 379 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 279 (8.15%) males constitute 145 (4.24%) of the population and females 134 (3.91%).
  • Scheduled tribe counts for 68 (1.99%) males constitute 37 (1.08%) of the population and females 31 (0.91%).

According to a census 2011 report, 1568 people of the total population are employed. The workforce is 886 male, 682 female with 917 (58.48%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 662 males and 255 females. 79 males and 28 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 126 male and 94 female agricultural labor. 651 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of POKARAN and Jaisalmer to sell ghee and make their living.
