Manuel Hai (born Manuel Julián Escobar Díaz) is a Colombian director, writer, actor, and producer of independent films and stageplays, better known in his country for his company, SevenPhotons Films[1] (also called 7FF)[1], and the performing collective he leads, Om Ki Reo Escena[2][3][4]. Before 2021, while he directed Om Ki Reo Escena, he still worked as a physicist and engineer, having some published papers by those years [5][6][7][8]. In 2021, he won with his group the national grant for theatrical creations with the stage play "Soy El Hombre" ("I am the man"), written by him, and presented in 2022 in Teatro Libre de Bogotá[9]. The stage play shows, its national importance, and the work done by Manuel Hai was informed by the biggest national news company of Colombia, Caracol, after interview with him.[9]

As a filmmaker, director and screenwriter, he got some international visibility in Canada and Italy with his short films "Conjecture" and "Letaníos", being the only Colombian filmmaker in several finalists lists, as it can be seen in each official webpage, including a Filmmaker Spotlight in Canada [10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. His first feature films are projected to be Final Jeopardy (developing since 2016) and Meinong's Jungle, according to the interview made to Manuel Hai by the best ranked newspaper in the country, El Tiempo [1][17].

As a writer, Manuel won the 2006 national sci-fi contest with his short story "Soy El Hombre"[9][8] and the 2005 national scientific essay award of the Colombian Society of Physics[9][8]. In addition, he was part of the Colombian Fantastic Short Story Anthology published in 2007[8][18][19]. His book "El Debut de los Monos Marchitos" ("The Debut of the Withered Monkeys") got some positive reviews[20][21]. Other of his works in literature have got some visibility outside the country[22].
