Masters athletics

Masters athletics is a division of the sport of athletics that is reserved for competitors over the age of 35. Track and field, road running, and cross-country running are among the activities on the schedule. Competitors are divided into five-year age groups based on their birth year (which promotes fair competition). The first age category for international competitions is between the ages of 35 and 39. Men as elderly as 105 and women as old as 100 have participated in running, leaping, and throwing competitions, among other sports. Masters athletes are often referred to as "veterans," and the European Masters Championships, for example, are referred to as the "Eurovets" championships. This and other high-level competitions, like as the biannual World Championships, are primarily geared at elite-level athletes. However, many masters athletes are new to the sport and appreciate the camaraderie that masters competition provides at the local, national, and international levels. The Masters championships are held annually by the majority of national track and field governing organisations. Top masters athletes compete in demonstration events at prestigious national meetings such as the Penn Relays and the United States Olympic Trials (track and field). With over 6000 athletes participating at recent World Championships, masters athletics is becoming more popular worldwide. The records are kept for each age group on a global, national, and regional level.
