MATTE (est 2012, New York City) is an American creative agency. They are most notable for their production of the documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened which aired on Netflix.[1][2]
They are also well know for organizing the BLACK Music and Arts Project (New York City),[3][4] and the film “Can’t Stop Won't Stop: The Bad Boy Story” for Apple TV.[5]
The firm has produced for notable brands such as Versace, Chanel, Samsung, Spotify, Moët & Chandon, Adidas, Prada, Marriott International, Reebok, and Snapchat.[6]
MATTE was created in 2012 launching Kitsuné (a Parisian music and fashion label) in America with event production and concert promotion. The firm then moved into creative and production for music festivals of its own. MATTE then created and produced New York’s Full Moon Fest along with art-driven international music experience BLACK Music and Arts Project.[7] [8][9]
MATTE then began creative work for brands such as Chanel, Samsung, Spotify, Moët & Chandon, Adidas, Prada, Marriott International, Reebok, and Snapchat.[6]
MATTE gained industry recognition for their work in the fashion industry and innovating a way to convert live music coverage into commercial industry trends. They began translating the traditional runway experience into live editorial runway films for brands including Tom Ford, Alexander Wang (designer), and Coach New York.[10] MATTE turned to fashion when they saw there was an opening to create “really beautiful editorial films” out of a traditional runway experience.
In 2012 MATTE also created the music festival Full Moon Fest (now known as La Luna) launched in New York on August 30, 2012. The festival featured artists such as Sbtrkt, Pusha T, Kelela, Larry Heard, Santigold, Black Coffee (DJ), Moodymann, Vic Mensa, Kali Uchis, Allah-Las, and Yacht (band).[11][12]
In 2018, MATTE executive produced Netflix’s Emmy Award FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, which premiered on the streaming service in January 2019.[13]
In 2019 They produced ESPN Webby-nominated 7-part docuseries Declared, featuring National Basketball Association skills trainer Chris Brickley and four NBA draft prospects, which aired 13 June, 2019.[14]
