McCain was born in Houston, Texas, to the mother of Aretta Artis and the father of Michael McCain. In 2001 McCain moved from her home town Houston to Los Angeles. McCain became a mother of two girls in 2005 and 2007. In 2005 McCain married comedian Mike Epps and became a mother[6]. McCain mothered another child in 2007[7]. In 2017 Méchelle McCain was divorced from comedian Mike Epps.

Mechelle started her career as an actress in the movie The Fighting Temptations in 2003. McCain began producing in 2009 for the Mike Epps: Funny Bidness[8]. In 2011 McCain was in the movie 35 and Ticking. McCain then went on to producing the Basketball Wives the Movie (trailer) Spoof in 2012. McCain produced Misadventures of a Hollywood housewife in 2013[9].
