Merwa is a small village of 422 hectares in Pokaran Tehsil in Jaisalmer district, nicknamed ""The Golden city"" in the State of Rajasthan, India.[2] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Merwa depends on POKARAN, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[3] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, Two Wells supply, One tank, Two tubewells, and Two handpumps. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - Two rivers, Two canals and Two springs. Merwa is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Tubewell. Merwa's pin code is 345021[4], and village code is 02056000. The area of Merwa is segregated as 197.3 hectares unirrigated, the 210 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 14.21 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Merwa has One public telephone. The village is connected with a single bus service. Merwa has Two banks and Two credit societies for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics[edit]

Merwa is a census village in the district of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The village has a total population of 498 and has total administration over 63 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Merwa has 99 children, 55 boys and 44 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 279 (56.02%) males constitute 149 (29.92%) of the population and females 130 (26.10%).

Employment[edit]

According to a census 2011 report, 204 people of the total population are employed. The workforce is 117 male, 87 female with 184 (90.2%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 109 males and 75 females. 55 males and 69 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 2 males. 20 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of POKARAN and Jaisalmer to sell ghee and make their living.
