Mihrab Zakariyya is currently situated between the gates of Mercy and Solomon's Chair which is near the Gate of the tribes[1][1][2][3] just opposite the southern wall of the Mosque of the Forty Martyrs.[4] Since Mihrab has changed its location for a couple of times its original place is a matter of discussion.[4] For Ibn al-Faqih, Mihrab of Zakariyya is in the north-east corner of Haram.[5] It is one of the two modest shrine in Masjid al-Aqsa.[6] and one of the two shrines in Al-Aqsa Mosque which was assumed to serve Templar’s workmen in Crusade time whose east wall is round-window with six spokes.[6]
Abrahamic tradition associates the Mihrab with prophet Zakariyya where he prayed to God upon angels’ calling him.[7] while Islam it to be a place of worship.[8][4] It is thought that The Mihrab Zakariyya is decorated with panels.[9][10][11]
