Monaco, also known as the Principality of Monaco, is a sovereign city-state and microstate located on the French Riviera, a few miles west of the province of Liguria in Italy, in Western Europe, on the Mediterranean Sea. It shares a border with France on all three of its sides: the north, the east, and the west. There are 38,682 people living in the principality, of whom 9,486 are native Monegasque citizens; it is generally acknowledged as one of the most costly and wealthy locations in the world. French is the de jure language of business, law, and government in the principality. In addition, many locals are fluent in Monégasque, English, and Italian, in addition to their native language.
