Jisoo Park (Korean: 박지수; born June 9th, 1993), better known professionally as NIve (니브), is a Korean-American pop singer-songwriter, producer, and composer. He made his first public appearance as a contestant in the South Korean television talent show series Superstar K 6, where he finished in the Top 9 (then appearing as Brian Park).[1] NIve released his first single, "Getaway," with indie singer-songwriter JMSN on November 9th, 2018. [2][3] NIve has also written, composed, and produced songs for major K-Pop artists, including EXO, EXO's CHEN[4], Paul Kim, Sam Kim, Jeong Se-woon, and more.

Life and career[edit]

Early life and career[edit]

NIve was born in the United States and raised in Seoul, South Korea through his elementary school years. He and his family moved to Gold Coast, Australia, where he spent his middle school and early high school days. [5] His family then moved to Edgewater, New Jersey, where he would finish out the rest of his high school years. NIve attended Mannes School of Music in New York as a clarinet major for one year. During this time, he uploaded a viral cover of John Legend's hit song "All Of Me," earning an invitation to participate as a contestant on Superstar K 6.

After placing as a finalist in the Top 9 of Superstar K 6, NIve began to his path as a solo singer-songwriter. In 2016, NIve traveled to Los Angeles, where he spent time honing and crafting his skills as a songwriter with multi-platinum hit producer Hyuk Shin and Shin's 153/Joombas Music Group team. The encounter led to NIve signing with 153 Entertainment in 2018, the record label helmed by Shin.

2018-2019: U.S. Debut and Producer/Songwriter Debut[edit]

NIve made his debut on November 9th, 2018 with his first single "Getaway," featuring prominent indie singer-songwriter JMSN.[3] The single was described as "a blues-infused pop ballad that draws inspiration from classic jazz influences." [2] This collaboration garnered public interest in and anticipation for NIve [2], leading into his follow-up single "From: Me."

In April 2019, NIve participated in his first songwriter credit under his real name Jisoo Park, having penned the song "Beautiful Goodbye" for the solo debut for EXO's CHEN. The song topped both domestic music charts and international charts, earning NIve much recognition as a respectable songwriter.

NIve followed that up with his first release of 2019 through his acclaimed song "Who I Am," which cemented NIve as an established singer-songwriter capable of writing music in a myriad of genres. "Who I Am" is one of NIve's best-performing songs to date, having charted on various iTunes Charts around the world. On June 28, 2019, NIve released "Liberated," described as an "uplifting anthem of hope and consolation for anyone who is struggling in life. The song is NIve's way of saying, "I'm here for you, everything will be alright.""[6]

On September 26, 2019, NIve's third single of 2019 was released, titled "Tired." This song is one that truly highlights NIve's diversity as a producer and songwriter, taking a sharp turn from the more on-the-nose pop that was heard in "Who I Am" and "Liberated."[7] The whimsical lyrics that speak to the honest truth about what it means to be tired have become a sounding board for the current generation, reflected in its nearly 4.5 million views and streams.

Through 2019, NIve remained extremely active as a songwriter, having written, composed, and/or produced on ten different records. Some of these songs include "Groove" by mega K-Pop boy band EXO, "New Day" by popular ballad singer Paul Kim, "Where's My Money" by Sam Kim, "When It Rains" by Produce 101 Season 2 stand-out Jeong Se-woon, and more.

2020: Korean debut[edit]

In continuing to broaden his spectrum as a global artist, NIve made his official Korean debut with the song "Like a Fool" on April 2nd, 2020 featuring prominent singer-songwriter Sam Kim. The song charted across various domestic music charts, peaking at #79 on MelOn Music's Real-time Charts.
