Northwestern University in Qatar

Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) is a campus of Northwestern University located in Education City in Doha, Qatar. It was established in 2008 as a result of a cooperation with the Qatar Foundation.

Northwestern University's Qatar campus provides a liberal arts and media education, with undergraduate degrees in communication, journalism, and strategic communication being conferred on the Qatar campus.

Following an approach from the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development in 2006, Northwestern University agreed to establish a campus in Education City the following year, which was completed in 2009. The first NU-Q Class of 2012 started their studies in August of that year. Classes have been added to the schedule each year, and the university has developed strong ties with local organisations, partnering with media organisations, and collaborating with a number of regional initiatives in order to provide its students with additional educational and professional opportunities.

Students and faculty at Northwestern University in Qatar have heard from a number of well-known journalists and media professionals, including Fareed Zakaria of CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS, journalist Evan Osnos of The New Yorker, television journalist Tim Sebastian, Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi, Carlos Van Meek, former head of output for Al Jazeera English, Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of the New York Times, and Jeff Cole, director of the World Internet Project.

The institution celebrated the graduation of its inaugural class in the spring of 2012.
