The main campus of Nova Southeastern Institution, sometimes known colloquially as Nova, is located in Davie, Florida. The institution is comprised of a total of 18 colleges, centres, and schools, and it provides access to over 150 different academic programmes. Professional degrees may be earned in the fields of social sciences, law, business, osteopathic medicine, allopathic medicine, allied health, pharmacy, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing at this institution. There were 20,576 students enrolled at Nova Southeastern University as of the year 2019, and the school has produced more than 170,000 graduates. NSU has other campuses in Dania Beach, North Miami Beach, and Tampa, Florida, in addition to centres placed all throughout the state of Florida. The primary campus of NSU is situated on 314 acres and is located in Davie, Florida.

On a former navy outlying landing field that was constructed during World War II, the university was established in 1964 as the Nova University of Advanced Technology. At the time, it was the only institution in the world to grant graduate degrees in the fields of the physical and social sciences. The present name of the institution was adopted after a merger that took place in 1994 between it and the Southeastern University of the Health Sciences.

NSU is categorised as a "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity" university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and it is also categorised as a "community engaged" university by the same organisation. The institution has a number of other specific accreditations for its schools and programmes in addition to having received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The National Sporting University Sharks are members of the Sunshine State Conference and participate in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
