    Nurse practitioner

From Wikitia - Reading time: 1 min

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a sort of mid-level practitioner who has advanced nursing practise and who is also a registered nurse. NPs get the education necessary to evaluate the requirements of patients, place orders for and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, diagnose diseases, and create, prescribe, and manage treatment plans and drugs. Training for nurse practitioners includes fundamental aspects of illness prevention, care coordination, and health promotion, but it does not give the level of in-depth competence required to diagnose more complicated disorders.

Legal jurisdiction determines the range of activities that may be performed by an NP. While nurse practitioners (NPs) have full practise authorization in 26 of the 50 states in the United States, they are obliged to operate under the supervision of a physician in the other 24 states. In Australia, the individual's level of competence and the policies of the health organisation they work for determine the extent of their practise, while a Collaborative Practice Arrangement with a medical practitioner is necessary for them to exercise their right to obtain Medicare rebates.
