Orange County is a county in the state of California that is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan region. It had a population of 3,010,232 people in 2010, making it the third-most populated county in California, the sixth-most populous county in the United States, and more populous than 21 states in the United States. Despite being mostly suburban, it is the second most densely inhabited county in the state, behind only San Francisco County in terms of population density. In Orange County, the counties three most populated cities are Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Irvine, all of which have a population in excess of 300,000 people. Santa Ana is also the county seat, which makes it a convenient location. California's Pacific coast is home to six communities, including Seal Beach and Huntington Beach, as well as Orange County's Newport Beach and Laguna Beach towns, as well as Dana Point and San Clemente.

It is part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes the whole county of Orange. Downtowns in older cities like Santa Ana, Anaheim, Orange, and Fullerton date back to the nineteenth century, whereas newer commercial development or "edge cities" stretch along I-5 between Disneyland and Santa Ana, between South Coast Plaza and the Irvine Business Complex, and cluster at Irvine Spectrum. Older cities like Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Orange have traditional downtowns that date back to the nineteenth century. Despite the fact that single-family homes constitute the majority of the county's landscape, Northern and Central Orange County is significantly more urbanised and dense when compared to the areas beyond Irvine, which are less dense but still contiguous and predominantly suburban rather than exurban.

Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Modjeska House, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Yost Theater, Bowers Museum, Balboa Island, Angel Stadium, Downtown Santa Ana, Crystal Cove State Park, the Honda Center, and several popular beaches are among the many attractions along the county's more than 40 miles (64 km) of coastline.
