Osaka

On the island of Honshu, Japan, Osaka is an officially recognised city in the Kansai area. Behind Tokyo and Yokohama (both situated within the Greater Tokyo Area and the Kant region), it is the capital and most populous city of Osaka Prefecture and the second most densely populated city in Japan, following Tokyo and Yokohama. With such a population of 2.7 million people according to the 2020 census, it is the most populated component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Region, which is the second-largest metropolitan area in Japan and the tenth-largest urban area in the world, with more than 19 million people.

Known as one of Japan's most diversified and cosmopolitan cities, Osaka is a significant financial hub that also happens to be a popular tourist destination. In addition to housing the Osaka Securities Exchange, the city is also home to the headquarters of international electronics corporations like as Panasonic and Sharp, among others. It is represented by many prominent institutions, including the Osaka University, Osaka Metropolitan University, and Kansai University, which are all worldwide centres of research and development. The city's most well-known sights are Osaka Castle, the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, Dtonbori, Tstenkaku in Shinsekai, Tennji Park, Abeno Harukas, Sumiyoshi Taisha Grand Shrine, and Shitenn-ji, one of Japan's oldest Buddhist temples.
