Paul Brand is a journalist and broadcaster. Since 2021 he has been the UK Editor for ITV News.[1] He was previously Political Correspondent for ITV News from 2016 to 2020. In December 2020 he was named Political Journalist of the Year at the British Journalism Awards.
Brand grew up near Bridgend in South Wales and attended Cowbridge Comprehensive School. He later studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University, where he was awarded a scholarship.
Brand first joined ITV News in 2008 as a journalist at ITV Wales. He has since worked for ITV London, ITV Tyne Tees, ITV Yorkshire and ITV Border, as well as Good Morning Britain (2014 TV programme).
In 2016, he was the first journalist to report the defining result in Sunderland on the night of the EU referendum result, and joined ITV national news shortly afterwards as Political Correspondent.
In 2019, Brand was named Broadcaster of the Year at the Pink News Awards for his investigations into gay conversion therapy. [2]
In 2020, Brand was named Political Journalist of the Year at the British Journalism Awards for his reporting on the Covid-19 crisis in care homes during the pandemic. [3]
In January 2021 Brand took up the role of UK Editor for ITV News, replacing Allegra Stratton.[4][5]
Brand has co-presented the Peston programme on ITV and in 2021 fronted his first edition of the Tonight programme.[6]
Brand lives in North London with his husband, who is a civil servant. He is the patron of the LGBT+ charity Just Like Us and co-founder of the campaign School Diversity Week. [7]
