Perfocal is a technology company based in London, United Kingdom. Its main business offering is an on-demand professional photography booking and editing service.[1]

History[edit]

Perfocal was founded by Tony Xu in 2015 in Manchester, UK, with seed funding from the University of Manchester. [2] It later joined MassChallenge UK accelerator, and moved to London.[3][4][5] In 2018, they received a £500,000 seed investment from London-based venture capital fund Fuel Ventures and entrepreneur Mark Pearson.[6][7] [8]

Services[edit]

As referred to as the "Uber for hiring photographers", Perfocal developed a matching system that connects a client with a particular photographer based on that client's needs and the professional's experience, location, and availability.[9][10] [11] [12] Its main competitors include Snappr and Meero.[9][13]

Stance Against Discrimination[edit]

Perfocal refunded and refused to hand over images taken for the Christian Institute after the LGBT rights in Northern Ireland 2018 Gay Cake Row in "stand against discrimination".[14][15]
