Punjabi cinema

Pollywood is a metonymic term that is occasionally used to refer to the Punjabi-language film industry that is focused around the Indian state of Punjab and has its headquarters in Amritsar and Mohali. This industry produces films in the Punjabi language.

The first full-length motion picture to be created in the Punjab was titled Daughters of Today and was released in 1928. This film is considered to be the origin of Punjabi cinema. Heer Ranjha was the first picture to have sound and was released in 1932. It was created using the sound-on-disc technology. Since then, a large number of films have been created in the Punjabi film industry, several of which have garnered acclaim on an international level. Many actors and filmmakers got their start in Punjabi films. Some of these actors and filmmakers have gone on to establish themselves on a worldwide scale, while others have discovered that careers in sectors that produce bigger quantities of films provide higher financial rewards.
