History[edit]

Pusher was training as a jazz pianist before becoming interested in electronic music in 2012[3]. In 2014, Pusher started releasing singles on his Bandcamp, YouTube and Soundcloud pages, in the future bass style of electronic music. One of these singles, Islands, Waves, Caves & Skies, which featured samples from video game character Yoshi, became somewhat popular, helping the artist gain a number of followers on social media.[4] In 2016, Pusher released the EP New Laces through Black Butter Records, which was critically well-received,[5][6][7][8] and featured the single "Clear", featuring Mothica, which was remixed by Shawn Wasabi, and both the remix and the original have garnered significant popularity, the original peaking at rank 47 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic chart.[6][9][10]. In 2018, Pusher released another EP, Paperman, which was not as popular or critically well-received as its predecessor, although it still garnered some positive reviews .Also in 2018, Pusher began to release educational content about music theory on his YouTube channel, including breakdown videos that analyzed songs from popular artists, including Michael Jackson, Bill Wurtz, and Sigrid.[3] In 2019, Pusher participated in the "JAMuary" challenge, where he wrote and produced a short track for each day in January. He has participated in the challenge again in January 2020 and 2021. Pusher started working for Andrew Huang in 2019, helping the artist with mixing and mastering on all the songs he has released since then.[1] Pusher was also featured on Huang's single "Sparkle Mountain". In December 2020, Pusher released an EP of songs written for the indie video game Echo Generation.[11][2] In January 2021, Pusher announced his debut full-length album, Stay-at-Home Popstar will be released 'soon', with the first single coming out in February.[2]
