Rehabilitation (penology)

From Wikitia - Reading time: 1 min

Individuals who commit crimes are subjected to rehabilitation, which is the process of re-educating and retraining them. Psychological treatments that target the cognitive distortions associated with specific types of crime perpetrated by individual perpetrators are often used; but, more general education, such as reading skills and employment training, may also be used. The ultimate objective is to reintegrate convicts back into society as quickly as possible.

Prisoners who are not put in health-threateningly awful circumstances, who have access to medical care, and who have been shielded from other types of significant ill-treatment will have a better chance of a successful rehabilitation, according to the National Institute of Corrections.
