Royan Institute (Persian: پژوهشگاه رویان)(The word Royan means embryo in Persian) is an Iranian clinical research and educational institute dedicated to biomedical, Translational medicine and Clinical research , Stem-cell research, and Infertility treatment. It is a public non-profitable organization affiliated to the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research.[1]It was established in 1991 by Saeid Kazemi Ashtiani [2]as a research institute for Reproductive medicine and infertility treatments. In 1998, the Ministry of Health approved the institute as a cell-based research center with over 46 scientific members and 186 lab technicians. [3][4][5]
Royan Institute started publishing the quarterly Cell Journal with an impact factor of 3.128 (2022) and the quarterly journal of International Journal of Fertility and sterility (IJFS) since 2007.[6] [7] [8] [9] In addition to these two international journals, Royan has published more than 600 Scientific literature in national and international journals and has published 14 books in two languages (English and Farsi) and has 26 Patents that registered in Iran.[10]
Royan Institute consists of three research institute s in two cities (Tehran and Isfahan).
Royan Institute for Reproductive Medicine (RI-RB) was established in ,[13] the vision of this institute has been to promote the health of the population and increase the rate of successful pregnancy along with improving the health of the fetus. Investigating the causes of failure in embryo implantation and frequent abortions, improving the quality and separating the best sperms in terms of movement and shape, and investigating the quality of ovarian follicles and the causes of their prematureness. Ovarian failure or polycystic ovary syndrome and investigating the side of cancer drugs on gametes or endometriosis are among the main duties and functions of the Institute of Reproductive Medicine.[14]
