Ryan McLean (born 3 May 2000) is an English professional footballer who plays as a winger for EFL League Two club AFC Wimbledon.
McLean was born in 3 May 2000 in England. A part of the Shrewsbury Town academy as a teenager, he was released aged 15.[1]
McLean's first spell in men's football was with Allscott Heath. In December 2018, McLean joined Northern Premier League Division One West club Market Drayton Town.[2]
McLean signed for Northern Premier League Division One South East club Newcastle Town in September 2019, after impressing Newcastle's manager Robin van der Laan whilst playing against them for Market Drayton. During his time at the club, McLean had trials with various Football League clubs including Port Vale, Salford City, Burton Albion and Stoke City.[3]
On 16 February 2021, McLean joined National League North club Hereford on loan.[4][5] He only managed one substitute appearance during this loan spell before the curtailment of the National League season and was unable to feature in Hereford's run to the FA Trophy final due to being cup-tied.
On 21 June 2021, McLean's move to Hereford was made permanent for an undisclosed fee, a record signing for Newcastle Town, signing a two-year deal.[6] Towards the end of his two-year contract, McLean was offered a new deal by incoming manager Paul Caddis.[7]
On 22 June 2023, McLean signed for EFL League Two club AFC Wimbledon, rejecting the offer from Hereford, on a two-year contract with an option for a further 12 months, for an undisclosed fee.[8] McLean gave up his day job in IT recruitment to join the Dons.[9]
