Sankar is a small village of 2974 hectares in Sanchore Tehsil in Jalor district, also known as Granite City in the State of Rajasthan, India.[2] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Sankar depends on SANCHORE, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[3] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, One tank, One tubewell, and One handpump. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - Two rivers, Two canals and Two springs. Sankar is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Handpump. Sankar's pin code is 343040[4], and village code is 02332900. The area of Sankar is segregated as 1553 hectares irrigated area, 1168 hectares unirrigated, the 103 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 150 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Sankar has One post office (Sankad B.O). The village is connected with a single bus service. Sankar has Two banks, One credit society and One agricultural credit society for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics[edit]

Sankar is a census village in the district of Jalor, Rajasthan. The village has a total population of 6829 and has total administration over 1164 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Sankar has 1146 children, 617 boys and 529 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 711 (10.41%) males constitute 378 (5.54%) of the population and females 333 (4.88%).
  • Scheduled tribe counts for 767 (11.23%) males constitute 412 (6.03%) of the population and females 355 (5.20%).

According to a census 2011 report, 3847 people of the total population are employed. The workforce is 1993 male, 1854 female with 3513 (91.32%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 1825 males and 1688 females. 1323 males and 1373 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 251 male and 232 female agricultural labor. 334 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of SANCHORE and Jalor to sell earthen pot and make their living.
