Santa Monica College, abbreviated as SMC, is a community college that is both public and located in Santa Monica, California. Over 30,000 students are now enrolled in Santa Monica College, which first opened its doors as a junior college back in 1929. The college's enrollment quickly expanded to educate college-age students as well as non-traditional students with the primary intention of transferring to a four-year university, despite the fact that it initially served pre-college high school students to a much greater extent than college-age students. It is one of the few colleges that has a high transfer rate to four-year universities like the Universities of California or the California State Universities. This makes it a competitive option for students. The majority of students attending Santa Monica College now are enrolled in classes on a part-time basis. SMC is a substantial contributor to the economy of the Greater Los Angeles Area as a result of its role as a major employer in the area. The company employs over 2,000 workers.

The Santa Monica College (SMC) is the sole public institution of higher education in Santa Monica and it takes up the whole of the Santa Monica Community College District. The college's most extensive presence may be seen on the Pico Boulevard site of its main campus. The institution has five satellite campuses around Santa Monica.

In terms of the number of students who transfer to the University of California from one of California's 113 community colleges, Santa Monica College is in first place. Through its radio station KCRW (89.9 FM), the Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, and lifelong learning through distinctive programmes such as its Emeritus College for older adults, Santa Monica College (SMC) has been providing job training, educational opportunities, and cultural enrichment since 1929.
