Secklow Sounds is a Community radio in the United Kingdom station broadcasting a range of music and speech to people in and around Milton Keynes and Borough of Milton Keynes|its borough on FM broadcasting|FM and online. The licence is held by the Secklow Sounds Community Interest Company as a platform for the voluntary sector, promoting social cohesion and understanding. The station started on the internet in December 2011 and launched on FM in June 2017.

History[edit]

Secklow Sounds was formed by the former members of the Adventist Radio Milton Keynes (ARMK) in 2011 and began broadcasting online. Their first studio was at The Old Rectory Farm in Peartree Bridge. In 2014 they applied for a community FM licence with Ofcom.

Secklow Sounds and were granted an a 5 year licence on March 2015 and the moved the studio to the University of Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes Campus.[1] They began broadcasting on 105.5 over two years later in June 2017. The studio was moved to Lynx Networks in Mount Farm but have since left the site. The current studio location is not published.

The licence is up for renewal in June 2022.

Programming[edit]

The service caters specifically to the interests of local people who are disadvantaged, people from diverse backgrounds, the local music and arts scenes and the voluntary sector.

In July 2020, Secklow Sounds made substantial changes to their key commitments including: reducing original programmes from a minimum of 100 hours to 40 hours per week and playing music from the 60s onwards instead of music from the 30s, 40s and 50s.[2]

Controversy[edit]

Secklow Sounds was found in breach of broadcast standards on multiple occasions between 2018 and 2020.[3][4]
