Senaka Rajapakse is a Sri Lankan academic, researcher and clinician. He is senior professor in Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and the director of the Lanka Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
'Senaka Rajapakse studied Dharmashoka College, Ambolango, Sri Lanka and entered Colombo Faculty of Medical, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He graduated from Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 1993.[1] Rajapakse received Doctor of Medicine from University of Colombo and membership from the UK Royal College of Physicians, UK. He had training in General (Internal) Medicine and Intensive care at Singapore National University Hospital, Singapore.
Rajapakse is a consultant physician in General (Internal) Medicine in department of Medicine, University of Colombo and honorary consultant at University medical unit, National Hospital of Sri Lanka.[2] He was promoted to Professor in 2009 and Senior Professor in 2018. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, the the Ceylon College of Physicians, and the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka. He is President Elect[3] of the Ceylon College of Physicians for 2021, Past-President[4]of the,and Regional Adviser[5]for Colombo to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He is co-editor[6] of the , and is on the editorial board of several journals. He has supervised and trained numerous specialist medical trainees and research students. He is the founder member of the Hypertensive society in Sri Lanka. Project lead for the . Founder and Head of the virtual learning centre, medical faculty Colombo (2004-2009). Department Head, Department of clinical medicine, (2009-2010) and worked as the Director[7], Local Technical Secretariat, World Bank IDA funded IRQUE project (Improving Relevance and Quality of Undergraduate Education): 2007-2010. Rajapakse also worked as the Director[8] of the and has played a leading role in development of online teaching and learning.
His main research interest is in tropical infectious diseases, in particular dengue and leptospirosis, and he has over 140 publications in peer-reviewed journals, with over 3500 citations and an H-index of 34.[9] He has won numerous research awards, including many Presidential Awards for research, the National Science Foundation Research Award for Scientific Excellence in 2017, the University of Colombo award for Excellence in Research 2002, 2011, & 2015, and the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in research 2017. He was the SCOPUS Most Prolific Author for 2011-2017. He was awarded the CVCD (Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors, Sri Lanka) Most Outstanding Senior Researcher in Health Sciences Award in 2016,[10] which is a lifetime award for excellence in research. He was ranked in the top 2% of scientists around the world in a recent paper from Stanford University, published in the journal PLoS Biology.[11] This study has classified the scientists based on their career-long citation impact until the end of 2019.
