Shahir Shahidsaless (born March 26, 1952) is an Iranian-Canadian journalist, author, and a political analyst.[1][2][3] Shahidsaless is best known for his analytical and political reports on international relations. He majorly covers and writes about the political and economic situations of Iran, the Middle East, along with the US foreign policy in the region.[4][5][6][7][8]
Shahidsaless regularly writes for BBC Persian[9][10][11][12][13] while his views and comments have been featured by the American think-tank, the Atlantic Council,[14][15]Huffington Post[16], the London-based news outlet the Middle East Eye[17], Gulf News[18], Al-Monitor[19] and Asharq al-Awsat[20][21], and have appeared in other major news outlets.[22][23][24]
Shahidsaless has co-authored a book titled Iran and the United States: An Insider’s View on the Failed Past and the Road to Peace.[25] He authored this book along with Seyed Hossein Mousavian[26][27], a renowned Iranian policymaker and scholar. Shahidsaless has also authored a book in Persian titled Sun In the Mist: This Is How America Is Ruled. The book was published by the Central Library of Tehran (Iran) University.[28]
Shahir Shahidsaless was born in 1952 in Tehran, Iran. He graduated from Sharif University of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Later in his life Shahidsaless decided to follow his passion and continued his studies in International Relations at the University of London and obtained a Masters of Arts degree in Geopolitics and Grand Strategy from the University of Sussex.[29][30]
Shahidsaless began his career as a journalist in the later half of his life. Before that he worked in a number of different industries such as engineering, international trade and finance for over 25 years.
It was in 2000 that Shahidsaless embraced his passion to pursue writing about politics as a full time job. He started sending out his articles for publication and soon gained acknowledgement for his views and coverage on the issues related to the Middle East, Iran, US-Iran relations and the US foreign policy in the Middle East region[31][32]. Shahidsaless views and comments has been frequently quoted in the media[33][34][35] and publications.[36][37][38][39][40][41][42]
Shahidsaless has been noted for his political reporting and his views are often published in several media outlets such Huffington Post, Newsweek, Christian Science Monitor, Middle East Eye, Gulf News, Al-Monitor, Asharq al-Awsat (English and Persian).where he writes about the political issues and their effects.
In 2018, Shahidsaless was appointed as the official translator for the Amnesty International.
According to Reuters[43], In 2007, Shahidsaless sued Shirin Ebadi who is an Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate, in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan.[44] Shahidsaless claimed that Ebadi reneged on getting a publisher for a book that was written by Shahidsaless as per Ebadi’s request. Shahidsaless worked for almost two years on this project under the supervision of Ebadi. It was titled - A Useful Enemy which was supposed to be a response to Samuel Huntington’s Clash of Civilizations Theory.[45][46]

This book encompasses the US-Iran relations from 1856 to this decade. Its main focus is on examination of the complex interaction of both parties from the perspective of the Iranian culture, society, and the Iranian policy-making system.
Sun In the Mist: This Is How America Is Ruled [Persian خورشید در مه: آمریکا اینگونه اداره می شود] Published in 2004 by the Central Library of Tehran University.[49] Resorting to extensive documentary sources, this 600-page novel seeks to demonstrate the nature and extent of corporate influence on American politics.
