Southern New Hampshire University, sometimes known as SNHU, is a private institution of higher education located between Hooksett and Manchester in the state of New Hampshire. The institution has received regional accreditation from the New England Commission of Higher Education, in addition to national accreditation for some degrees in the fields of hospitality, health, education, and business. SNHU is one of the colleges that is expanding at the quickest rate throughout the country, and it now has 135,000 students enrolled in its online programmes.

Harry A.B. "H.A.B." Shapiro, an accountant, and Gertrude Gittle Crockett Shapiro, his wife, established the university in 1932 under the name New Hampshire School of Accounting and Secretarial Science. At the time, the Shapiros were second-generation Russian Americans. Today, the university is known as the New Hampshire School of Accounting and Business Administration. His wife, who had progressively overseen the school as her husband's health worsened, then directed the school until 1971, serving as president emerita until 1986. At the time of H.A.B. Shapiro's death in 1952, there were 25 pupils enrolled.

For students majoring in business, the Honors Program is a three-year, integrated academic programme that is spread out over the period of six semesters and has a custom-designed curriculum. Because of this, students may complete the requirements for an undergraduate degree in business in in three years rather than four. In 1995, it was initiated with the assistance of a challenge grant provided by the United States Department of Education. Undergraduate students at SNHU who are majoring in creative writing or justice studies may also take advantage of the university's accelerated programme options.

There are 161 full-time teachers, 5,798 part-time instructors, and 20 instructional graduate assistants on SNHU's faculty. The Century Foundation reports that between August 2016 and January 2017, SNHU spent more than $11 million on advertising, while just 18 cents of every dollar was spent on training.
